Module 1 · Lesson 4 of 4
Know what a film costs, in plain numbers.
Film prices are easiest to compare by the finished minute. This lesson shows what that means and where to see every price.
The steps
Per finished minute
A finished minute is one minute of the final film you get back. Takes that came out wrong don’t count.
“Per finished minute” is the price divided by the minutes of film you get back.
For example: you pay $20 and get back 2 minutes of film. That’s $10 per finished minute.
Making it yourself
If you make it yourself, you pay a studio for a month. One month of Google Flow costs $4.99 to $19.99.
With a separate service for each job, like one for video and one for voices, the same film costs about $44 for the month.
Beginners make about 3 minutes of footage for every 1 minute they keep. Many takes come out wrong and get made again.
The per-minute prices in the costs table already count that.
Free plans often add a watermark, and most don’t allow commercial use, like an ad for your book.
None of these prices count your own time.
Done for you
Or the BookWriter team makes it for you. That’s a done-for-you film.
You pay for a package, not by the second. The AI Trailer costs $399. Length: Up to 90 sec.
Ask for a 30-second trailer in that package and you still pay the full $399.
So a shorter film costs more per finished minute. At full length, a trailer is $266 a minute. A 30-second one costs more than that, because the same price buys less film.
See every price
Every way to make a film, with its price per finished minute, is in the costs table on the course home page.
Done-for-you films, and how to order one, are on the Movies page.

Do this now
Look at the costs table, then write down the most you want to spend on your first film.
Check yourself
- Can you say what “per finished minute” means in your own words?
- Do you know why a shorter film in the same package costs more per minute?
- Did you write down the most you’ll spend?
If any answer is no, go back over the steps, or look below.
Stuck?
- The price on a studio’s website is different.
- Prices change. Trust the studio’s own pricing page over any list, including ours.
- I don’t know how much to spend.
- Start with the cheapest path: one month of Google Flow, from $4.99. Module 8 walks you through it.
- Will I be charged every month?
- Most services charge again each month until you cancel. When you sign up, set a reminder on your phone to cancel before the month ends.
