Final Edit

Your whole book, read the way a continuity department reads it.

Final Edit takes your finished manuscript end to end and repairs real mistakes — duplicate scenes, characters who drift, timelines that break, names that collide. Every finding is proven against your own text before a single word changes.

What it is — and is not

An editor for mistakes, not a rewrite machine.

Line editors polish sentences one at a time. Final Edit works at the altitude where books actually fail readers: the scene that appears twice, the sister who becomes a cousin in chapter 12, the injury that vanishes overnight. It fixes what is provably wrong and leaves your voice exactly where it was.

How it works

The science of a trustworthy edit.

Most AI editing fails in one of two ways: it invents problems that don't exist, or it "fixes" things by rewriting them. Final Edit is engineered against both.

First, it learns your book cold

Before touching a word, Final Edit builds a truth sheet of your story: who every character is, how they relate, what roles they play — each fact anchored to evidence pulled from your own chapters. Your book defines the rules it will be checked against.

Then it tracks state like a continuity department

A state ledger follows the moving parts chapter by chapter: who knows what, who is injured, where objects are, what day it is, what a business deal currently says. Continuity errors are caught because the ledger knows what was true a hundred pages ago.

Every finding must prove itself — or it is thrown away

This is the heart of Final Edit. A finding is only kept if it anchors to the exact text of your manuscript. Anything the system cannot prove with a real quote from your book is discarded before you ever see it. No invented problems, no phantom fixes.

Fixes are surgical by design

Hard caps limit how much any single fix can change — a few dozen words at most, with per-chapter limits on top. Passages you have protected are never touched. Final Edit repairs mistakes; it does not rewrite your voice.

Eight editorial lenses

Eight different readers, one pass.

Each lens reads your manuscript for a different class of failure. Together they cover 23 categories of real, provable mistakes.

Whole-book read

One continuous pass over the entire manuscript to catch what chapter-by-chapter reading misses.

Structural scan

Duplicate scenes, repeated beats, and scenes that loop without advancing the story.

Character canon

Characters drifting from who your book established them to be — ages, roles, histories.

Relationship consistency

Sisters who become cousins, bosses who become partners — relationship drift across chapters.

Name clarity

Colliding first names and ambiguous references that make readers stop and re-read.

Chapter handoffs

Every chapter boundary checked so time, place, and situation carry over cleanly.

Timeline & POV continuity

Days that repeat, injuries that vanish, point-of-view slips that break immersion.

Mechanical cleanup

Formatting artifacts, punctuation, and export-breaking glitches fixed deterministically.

The discipline

Guardrails you can hold it to.

Trust in an editor comes from what it refuses to do. These limits are enforced by the system itself — not left to judgment.

Proof-or-drop verification

Findings that cannot be anchored to an exact quote in your manuscript are discarded, not shown.

Per-fix word caps

No single fix may change more than a few dozen words. Big rewrites are structurally impossible.

Per-chapter budgets

Hard ceilings on words added and removed per chapter keep the pass honest and reviewable.

Full revert, always

Every fix is tracked. Revert any single change, or roll the whole book back to the pre-edit snapshot.

Availability

Included with every completed Co-Writer book.

Finish a book with Co-Writer and Final Edit is waiting in your Library — one full pass included, on the house. Your book earns its edit the moment you complete it.

Will Final Edit rewrite my voice or style?

No. Final Edit is a continuity and correctness pass, not a line editor. Hard caps limit every fix to a small, surgical change, and protected passages are never touched. Your prose stays yours.

What kinds of mistakes does it actually catch?

Real ones: duplicate or looping scenes, characters whose ages or relationships drift, name mix-ups, broken chapter handoffs, timeline errors, vanished injuries, POV slips, and formatting artifacts — 23 categories in total, across 8 editorial lenses.

How long does a full pass take?

A full-length manuscript is typically read, checked, and repaired in minutes. You can review the report and every individual fix as soon as the pass completes.

What if I disagree with a change?

Every fix is individually tracked and reversible. You can revert a single change or restore the entire pre-edit version of the book at any time.

How do I get Final Edit?

Final Edit is included with every completed Co-Writer book in BookWriter. Finish the book and the pass is waiting in your Library — no extra purchase, no setup.
