Module 8 · Lesson 7 of 8

Put your clips in order and make a first cut.

Flow’s Scenebuilder puts your clips in order, trims them and downloads the scene. Then you add the music and the captions in a free editor.

The steps

In Scenebuilder

  1. In your project, point at shot 1 without clicking. Click More, then Add to Scene.

  2. Do the same for every shot, in the order of your shot plan.

  3. Your scene is under Scenes on the left. Open it to see your clips in a row.

  4. Wrong order? Drag a clip to where it belongs.

  5. Trim each clip: drag the handle at its start or end to cut off the extra.

  6. Play the whole scene from the start. Then download the scene.

In the editor

  1. Get the free CapCut app from the App Store or Google Play. On a computer, CapCut and DaVinci Resolve are both free.

  2. Open CapCut and tap New project. Tap your downloaded scene, then tap Add.

Your scene now sits in a strip along the bottom. That strip is the timeline.

  3. Tap Audio at the bottom. Choose the option to add a sound from your phone, then pick your music file.

Can’t see it? Look in Files, then Downloads, where Flow Music saved it.

  4. Tap the music strip under your video. Tap Volume and drag it down. Play it back until every word is clear over the music.

  5. Tap Text, then Auto captions, then Generate. CapCut types the captions for you.

Newer versions put Auto captions under Captions.

  6. Tap each caption and fix any wrong word, using your script.

  7. Play it through. Make sure every line plays to the end before the next shot starts.

Notes on your cut

  1. Watch your first cut twice. Write down anything to fix, and the second it happens.

Fill it in here. It saves as you type, and later lessons use it.

Do this now

Build your first cut, then write down anything to fix.

Check yourself

  • Are your clips in the order of your shot plan?
  • Does every line finish before the next shot starts?
  • Did you write notes on your cut?

If any answer is no, go back over the steps, or look below.

Stuck?

I can’t find Add to Scene.
Point at the clip itself without clicking, then click More on that clip. Add to Scene is in the list.
The music drowns the voices.
Tap the music in your editor and lower its volume. Then test again on your phone’s speaker.
The captions have wrong words.
Tap the caption and type the right words from your script. Automatic captions often mishear names.
