Module 1 · Lesson 1 of 4
See what an AI film is, and what you still decide.
An AI film is made by computers but run by a person. Watch one of ours first, then see which jobs are yours.

The steps
Watch first
Play the film on this page from start to finish before you read on. Turn the sound on.
It runs 58 seconds: right in the 30 to 60 seconds this course has you aim for.
Your jobs
You decide the story: what happens, and in what order.
You decide the people: who is in it, what they look like and how they sound.
You decide the words. Every line of dialogue comes from you.
You decide what to keep. The computer makes many tries. Each try is called a take, and you pick the good ones.
The computer’s jobs
A person still directs every film. The AI does not decide what is good. It makes what you ask, and some tries come out wrong.
That’s why this course has you plan before you make anything. A clear plan means more good tries and less money wasted.
Three ways AI makes a shot
From words: text to video. You type what happens, and it makes a short clip.
Example: “A woman closes a front door at night and leans against it.”
From a picture: image to video. You give it a picture, and it makes the picture move.
The picture becomes the first moment of the shot. You say what happens next.
From reference pictures: you give it pictures of a person, a place or an outfit to copy. They stay the same in every shot.
Most films use all three. Module 8 shows each one, step by step.
Write your first sentence
In the box below, write one sentence about the film you want to make. Who is in it, and what happens?
For example: “A grandmother finds out her grandson has been lying to her.” It doesn’t have to be good yet.
Your film
My FilmsFill it in here. It saves as you type, and later lessons use it.
Do this now
Write one sentence about the film you want to make.
Check yourself
- Did you watch the whole film with the sound on?
- Can you name one thing you decide and one thing the computer makes?
- Did you write one sentence about your film?
If any answer is no, go back over the steps, or look below.
Stuck?
- The film won’t play.
- Check you’re on Wi-Fi, then reload the page. Still nothing? Find it on the Movies page and play it there.
- There’s no sound.
- Press the volume-up button on the side of your phone. On an iPhone with a small switch above the volume buttons, flip it so no orange shows.
- I don’t know what film I want to make yet.
- That’s fine. Write one sentence about any moment from your book, or any idea you’ve had. Module 2 helps you grow it.
Still stuck? Email info@bookwriter.vip and say which lesson you’re on. A person reads every message and writes back.
