BookWriter engineering

Co-Writer v2checks continuity, repairs specific passages, and preserves approved endings.

The original Co-Writer still drafts every chapter. Version 2 adds explicit point-of-view and tense enforcement, reusable book context, localized repairs, ending-preserving length control, verifiable chapter handoffs, and validation that protects the original text from damaging edits.

Implementation verification

Verified upgrades around the existing Co-Writer drafting engine.

Co-Writer v2 contains ten independent upgrades. Each upgrade has focused tests, with defined checks for the exact manuscript behavior it changes.

031

existing prose engine retained

The original Co-Writer engine still drafts the complete chapter; v2 adds verification and localized repair.

246 automated checks across the v2 upgradeCoverage includes narration, continuity references, localized edits, paragraph structure, approved endings, and chapter handoffs.

What changed

Six changes to chapter drafting, review, and continuity.

The changes below explain what each upgrade does, what manuscript problem it prevents, and which part of the chapter it protects.

01

Point of view and tense

Locks every chapter to the approved point of view and tense.

Co-Writer v2 reads point of view and tense from the approved book plan. Style settings can shape the prose, but they cannot override those two requirements.

Drafting and review use the same narration requirements.
02

Chapter context

Reuses stable book context without carrying review-only text forward.

Characters, locations, plot facts, and author instructions remain available across chapters. Quotations used only to verify a completed chapter stay out of the next chapter context.

Stable context is reused; the original context path remains available.
03

Localized repair

Repairs only the affected passage and rejects damaging edits.

When review identifies a specific defect, v2 edits that passage instead of rewriting the full chapter. The edit is discarded if it changes paragraph structure, damages the ending, or does not resolve the defect.

Each proposed edit is validated before it replaces manuscript text.
04

Length control

Shortens over-length chapters without changing the approved ending.

When a chapter exceeds its approved range, v2 removes complete body sentences at sentence boundaries. It preserves paragraph breaks, dialogue formatting, and the approved ending.

No filler is added, and the ending must remain byte-for-byte unchanged.
05

Chapter handoffs

Stores the exact chapter handoff and addresses every fact by stable identity.

The continuity record for a completed chapter is verified against the exact stored version. Character, location, and plot facts use stable references so later chapters receive the correct information.

Stored handoffs are verifiable and continuity facts cannot shift between rows.
06

Manuscript protection

Keeps the original text unless a proposed edit is proven safe.

Co-Writer v2 validates every proposed edit against paragraph structure, dialogue formatting, chapter length, and the approved ending before replacing manuscript text.

Unsafe or ineffective edits are discarded; the original text remains unchanged.

Architecture

How chapter generation works in Co-Writer v2.

Co-Writer drafts the complete chapter. Version 2 supplies stable context, checks the finished draft, applies only validated localized edits, preserves the approved ending, and records the handoff for the next chapter.

Release safeguards

Rules every v2 upgrade must follow.

  • The original Co-Writer engine drafts the complete chapter.
  • The approved book plan controls point of view and tense in drafting and review.
  • A localized repair is applied only when it resolves the named defect without damaging structure or the ending.
  • Length reduction removes complete body sentences and preserves the approved ending.
