Amazon Visibility
Why can't I find my book on Amazon?
You published. You type your topic into Amazon — and your book is nowhere. It's one of the most disheartening moments in self-publishing, and it almost always comes down to one of six things. Five of them you can fix this afternoon.
It's only been a few hours
New titles take 24–72 hours to be fully indexed into Amazon search. If you just hit publish, wait a day before you panic — the title search will usually appear first, the keyword search last.
Your keywords don’t match what readers type
Amazon surfaces your book for the phrases in your 7 backend keyword slots and your description. If those slots hold vague, low-demand, or off-target words, there is simply nothing for your reader's search to match. This is the single most common cause — and the most fixable.
Your description is written for you, not the search
A gorgeous blurb that never uses the words readers actually search will rank for nothing. The description is prime indexed real estate; it has to sell AND carry the phrases your readers type.
You picked the wrong categories
Categories decide which shelves you compete on. Too broad and you're buried under a million titles; too narrow or mismatched and the right readers never browse past you.
You’re searching in the wrong department
If your default Amazon search is set to "All Departments," a low-ranked new book can hide behind millions of products. Set the dropdown to Kindle Store or Books and search your exact keyword strings.
The title alone isn’t enough
Ranking for your own title is easy. Ranking for the phrases a reader who's never heard of you would type — that's discoverability, and it only happens when your metadata is built around real search demand.
The fix: metadata built from your actual book and real demand
Reasons 2, 3, and 4 are all the same problem wearing different hats: your keywords, description, and categories aren't built around what readers actually search. The KDP Visibility Kit reads your finished manuscript, checks live Amazon search demand, and hands you a description that ranks and sells, your 7 keyword slots filled with demand-ranked phrases, and 3 category picks — copy-paste ready.

How long until my book shows up in Amazon search?
Usually 24–72 hours after publishing. Title search appears first; full keyword indexing can take up to three days. If it has been longer than that and you still cannot find it by keyword, the problem is almost always your metadata, not a glitch.
Why does my book show when I search the title but not by topic?
Because Amazon indexes your title automatically, but it can only surface you for topic and genre searches if those phrases live in your 7 keyword slots and your description. If they do not, there is nothing for a topic search to match.
Can I change my keywords after publishing?
Yes — you can edit your 7 backend keywords, categories, and description any time in KDP, and the changes re-index within a few days. It is the fastest lever you have for discoverability.
