Module 9 · Lesson 4 of 5
Find and fix the most common problems.
Most first films go wrong in the same few ways. Find yours, and write the fix for each one on a fix list.
The steps
The face changes between shots
Use the saved character in every prompt. Keep shots short; the longer a shot runs, the more a face can drift.
Lips don’t match the voice
Redo the shot so the voice and lips are made together. Keep the line short.
Sentences cut off
Make sure each line plays to the end before the next shot starts.
Music drowns the voice or vanishes on a phone
Test on your phone’s speaker. Turn the music down until every word is clear.
Write your fix list
Watch your film once more, on your phone. Write the three biggest problems and the fix for each.
Write the second each problem happens, like “0:12”. Then you can find it fast.
Your film
My FilmsFill it in here. It saves as you type, and later lessons use it.
Do this now
Write the three biggest problems in your film and the fix for each.
Check yourself
- Did you watch your film on a phone before writing the list?
- Does every problem on your list have a fix next to it?
If any answer is no, go back over the steps, or look below.
Stuck?
- I see more than three problems.
- Write the three a viewer would notice first. Fix those, then watch again.
- Something feels off, but I can’t say what.
- Watch once with the sound off, then once with your eyes closed. One shows picture problems, the other sound problems.
- My problem isn’t one of these.
- Write it down in plain words anyway. Then look in Module 8 for how to fix your cut.
