Module 4 of 11

Planning the pictures

This module decides what the viewer sees, shot by shot, and who plays each character, before anything is made. Planning first saves you money and redos.

What you’ll make
A casting sheet for each character, and a shot plan: every shot in order, who is in it and what they do.
What it costs
Free. For a trailer, the Trailer Beat Planner and the Book Trailer Script Writer are free too. Doing it yourself, a picture service for characters and shots starts at $10 a month. See the costs table.

  2. Write your shot plan, one line per shot.
  3. Make a casting sheet for every character.
