The Author Page is the second product page — below the buy box, not in KDP
The Kindle and paperback pages show the cover, title, author name, price, and the buy box. Directly below that on mobile — and to the right on desktop — is the Author Page link: the author photo, a short bio, the Follow button, and the books. A shopper who taps that link leaves the single's product page and enters the author's brand page, where the Series carousel and the rest of the catalog either hold the consideration or lose it. An Author Page with a photo, a 400-plus-character bio with a hook plus credentials, all books claimed, Editorial Reviews placed above customer reviews, and a linked Series entry where the series phrase matches converts the tap. An Author Page with no photo and a thin bio and two of three books claimed reads as thin on mobile where that Page is the first tap below the cover.
Author Central is the filing cabinet; the Author Page is what shoppers see. You file the photo and bio in Author Central > Author Page. You claim books in Author Central > Books by searching title, ISBN, or ASIN. You place Editorial Reviews in Author Central > Book Details > Editorial Reviews per book. You link a series by setting the same Series Title and sequential volume numbers on each book in KDP Details — not in Author Central — and Author Central's Series tab shows the link after up to 72 hours. The checker asks whether the photo is uploaded, whether the bio is at least 400 characters, how many books are claimed over total, whether Editorial Reviews are placed on at least one book, and whether the series is linked where the phrase is identical and sequential.
Customer reviews on the book page affect the star rating, search ranking, and the trust a shopper places in the price above the buy box. You may not pay for positive reviews, you may not exchange a free book for a review outside Vine, you may not have family leave reviews, you may not use a review group, and you may not offer gifts tied to a review — any one is enough for Amazon to remove reviews and, on repeat, to suppress the title. Those five lines the review policy checker already summarized are not this Page's lines; this Page's five signals are photo, bio, claims, editorial, and series. All five decide the Author Page the shopper sees when they click the author name below the buy box.
Finished hours, price times platform share, sample windows, and SAY sheets all live elsewhere. A nine-hour thriller at $275 PFH is $2,475 production before the first sale, at $19.99 exclusive $8.00 per sale at 40 sales is $320 per month, the sample 5:00 at 63:00–68:00 is where the hook is heard, and the SAY KAEL-en is how it is said. An Author Page is none of those; it is whether the photo, bio, claims, editorial, and series are set.
How the completion is built — five signals, one percentage
Author photo is a boolean: uploaded or not. A photo drives clicks below the buy box more than any text because the Page on mobile crops the photo to a circle and the face is the tap target. A Page without a photo reads as thin even when books are claimed because the first visual element is missing.
Bio is a boolean: 400-plus characters or not. The model does not count words, it counts your declaration that the bio is at least 400 with a hook plus credentials. A 400-character bio is roughly 65 words — a hook plus one sentence of credentials is enough to hold the scroll where the Author Page is the first tap below the cover. A thin bio reads as thin even when the photo is set because the first text element is missing.
Books claimed over total is where most of the math lives. Claimed is how many of your published books are claimed on the Author Page, total is how many you have published as you want them linked. Three of three is 100% with no unclaimed; two of three with one missing is 67% with one unclaimed; zero of three is 0% with three unclaimed and the Page empty. The checker clamps total to at least one and claimed to zero to claimed, so claimed over total never divides by zero and never reports more claimed than total. Claimed all is claimed equals total and greater than zero; claimed percent is claimed over total times 100 rounded. A Page with zero of three claimed is thin at three books because over half your catalog does not appear on your Author Page and cannot benefit from Follow or series browse, and the checker therefore marks zero of three with many books as fail rather than warning.
Editorial Reviews is whether at least one book has Editorial Reviews placed above customer reviews. Two short blurbs above the fold is the social proof that holds on desktop, while zero reads as unendorsed and one reads as single-source. The difference between zero and two is bigger than between two and five. The fourth and fifth blurb fills the carousel, not the hero. A page with zero Editorial Reviews but three of three claimed with photo and bio reads as 80% — missing social proof, not missing catalog.
Series linked is whether the series phrase is identical and volumes sequential where you have said yes. The same series phrase and sequential volume numbers on each book in KDP Details build the Series Page within 72 hours when the phrase is identical and order is 1 through N. A page with three of three claimed with photo and bio and editorial placed but series not linked is 80% — missing read-through discoverability, not missing catalog, but the read-through that drives 60% read-through cannot be tapped without the carousel.
The five signals together make the Page. Photo, bio, claimed fraction, editorial, and series each is one point. Done over five times 100 is the percentage. All five is 100%. Four of five is 80% — missing one of editorial or series or photo. Three of five is 60% — missing two, often a photo and an unclaimed book. One of five is 20% — empty. The verdict reads the percentage and which signal is missing first, with photo and bio as the highest priority because they are the first tap below the cover, then claims because unclaimed books cannot be followed or linked, then editorial because social proof holds consideration, then series because browse needs the carousel.
The calculator is deterministic. The same five booleans and claimed over total always give the same percentage and the same verdict, because the five points and the clamp are fixed. Everything is calculated in your browser. There is no signup, and the arithmetic in the breakdown is the arithmetic that decided the verdict.
Reading the verdict — 100% complete, thin, no editorial, not linked, and the empty catalog
100% complete at all five signals set and all books claimed. Headline reads "100% — Author Page complete at 3/3 claimed, Editorial and Series live." Body names the photo and bio above the fold, claimed fraction, and the Editorial Reviews above customer reviews plus series linked within 72 hours. Complete means the Author Page converts the tap below the buy box; the product taxonomy that makes those rows distinct is why the same three books can be linked and not linked depending on which fields are set, and the Page that is built from the same series phrase and sequential volumes appears on both mobile and desktop.
Thin at missing photo or bio. Headline reads "60% — missing photo blocks above-the-fold" or "60% — missing bio." Body names the missing visual or text element with claimed fraction and editorial. Thin at missing photo or bio even when books are claimed is the highest priority warning because the first tap below the cover is face then bio; without them the Page reads as thin even when three of three are claimed. The fix is to upload a headshot where the face is centered — the Page crops to a circle on mobile — and to expand the bio to 400 plus with the hook from your description plus credentials.
Thin at unclaimed books. Headline reads "60% — 1 book unclaimed blocks Series and browse" or "20% — 3 books unclaimed." Body names the claimed fraction and the photo/bio state. Unclaimed books do not appear on your Author Page and cannot be linked as a series. An author with 12 books and 4 claimed at 33% with many books is thin at 12 books because over half the catalog does not appear on the Author Page and cannot benefit from Follow or series browse; that zero of three case with many books is therefore marked fail rather than warning.
No editorial is the next line. Headline reads "80% — Editorial Reviews not placed leaves social proof on the table." Body names the claimed fraction with photo and bio set but no Editorial Reviews. Two blurbs above customer reviews is the social proof that holds on desktop. A second editorial plus a first bullet edit that keeps the book's hook as the same hook where the phrase matches are the two above the fold where the shopper sees the sell, not in KDP.
Series not linked is the last line. Headline reads "80% — series not linked leaves read-through undiscoverable." Body names the series not linked where read-through cannot be tapped without the carousel. The fix is to link series in KDP Details: same series phrase and volumes 1 through total sequential on each book, then check Author Central > Series within 72 hours. A Series Page that is built as the same series title and sequential volumes on each book appears on both mobile and desktop.
Each result returns metrics for completion percent, books claimed over total with percent, editorial placed or not, and series linked or not, a breakdown of the five signals with done/missing and per-line notes, tailored recommendations, the table of when the Page reads as complete (5/5 complete, 4/5 no editorial, 3/5 thin, 1/5 empty), and related links that remain inside the author desk flow.
Why the Author Page is not KDP Description and why Series is not Review
The Author Page is not KDP Description. The description is the HTML the product page renders below the buy box with bold hook plus bullets; the Author Page is the author photo, bio, Follow, and books that appears when the shopper taps the author name below the buy box. The description sells the click on the product page; the Author Page sells the follow and the series browse after the click. The same series phrase and sequential volumes that build the Series Page within 72 hours make the carousel where book two is bought after book one without searching. Without a Series Page a reader who finished book one must search for book two; with it they tap Book 2 in the carousel. Promo rank lift without the Page loses read-through to search friction. The KDP Details series field that builds the Page, the HTML that renders the description, the sample 5:00 that browsers hear, and the SAY KAEL-en that is how it is said are all filing of three fields, a subset of seven allowed tags, a window where the hook lives, and caps with hyphens. The Author Page is none of those; it is whether the photo, bio, claims, editorial, and series are set.
Series is not review. Editorial Reviews are endorsements you place in Author Central above customer reviews; they do not affect the star rating and they are not subject to the same removal because they are endorsements rather than customer reviews. Customer reviews are posted by shoppers after purchase. The checkers that priced paperback at $16.99 and sized the cover at 12.926 wide are paper geometry; the Author Page is not characters, it is whether the Page allows follow.
The follow button itself is the reader magnet the light way. A shopper who follows on the Author Page gets new release notices where Amazon emails the follow. The newsletter where the email is the magnet is the heavier way. A shopper who follows on the Page after a promo that acquired readers via free or 99¢ is the read-through that promo pays. The three monetizations — pages read at $0.0040, pages printed at $4.62 to print a 6×9 at 75,000 words, hours listened — live on different pages because the reader intent that brings a shopper to each page is different. Keeping their sentences distinct is not decoration.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming claimed means published is most common. Published is not claimed until Author Central > Books > Add more books > search by title, ISBN, or ASIN finds it and you claim it. A book can be live on Amazon and yet not on your Author Page until claimed. A book not on your Author Page cannot be followed or linked as a series.
Treating a thin bio as complete is second. A bio at 120 characters that says "Author of thrillers" reads as thin on mobile where the Author Page is the first tap below the cover. A bio at 400 plus with the hook from your description plus credentials — where the hook is one sentence what the book is, then one line why you wrote it — holds the scroll.
Assuming Editorial Reviews are customer reviews is third. Editorial Reviews are endorsements placed in Author Central above customer reviews; they do not affect the star rating and they are not subject to the same removal, but they must be genuine endorsements. A launch team that leaves editorial blurbs in Author Central with the same text as customer reviews is still editorial if placed correctly, but they must be genuine endorsements, not swapped.
Mismatching the series phrase by a single word is fourth. "Chronicles" versus "Chronicles Saga" or "The Chronicles" is a different key and will show as two Series Pages. Copy the same series title string from a linked book and paste into the others. The word "Saga" is not an alias; it is a different key. The phrase must be identical on every edition, including translations if the translation is the same series.
Filing the series only in the title field is fifth. "Chronicles Book 2" in the title without the Series field filled is not linked. Fill the Series field on every book; keep the "Book N" in the title for shoppers, but the link is the field. The series title should be the head phrase without the volume number. "Chronicles" is the series title, 2 is the volume number. Do not put "Series: Chronicles" in the title field; use the Series field.
Filing the Page — where in Author Central you set the five signals
You file the photo and bio in Author Central > Author Page > Edit Author Page. Upload a headshot where the face is centered — the Page crops to a circle on mobile — and a bio at least 400 characters with the hook from your description plus credentials. The fields that must match verbatim across the series for the Series Page are not here; the Author Page photo and bio are per author, not per book.
You claim books in Author Central > Books > Add more books > search by title, ISBN, or ASIN. Each book must be claimed to appear on your Author Page and to be linkable as a series. The tool does not set these fields; it checks what you set. Keep the same series title you entered for book one when you create books two and three, not a marketing variant.
You place Editorial Reviews in Author Central > Author Page > Book Details > Editorial Reviews per book. Paste the blurb as plain text with attribution — "A missing clock the town swore was gone still ticks — Publishers Weekly." They appear on the Kindle and paperback pages after you save, usually within 24 hours.
If you distribute wide via Findaway or IngramSpark, the Author Page for Amazon still comes from Author Central. The description for Apple Books may render slightly differently, but the Author Page for Amazon's block is Amazon-only where the stars are shown.
Final checks before you tap Follow yourself
Count total books as you want them linked, not the number you have published plus the two you plan. Count how many are claimed on the Author Page, check photo, bio, editorial, and series. Read completion percent — 5 signals — done over five. Every book that has a distribution it can choose has a path to a comparison; the Author Page setup exists to name which of photo or bio or claims is blocking your specific Page so the shopper's tap lands on a Page that sells.
How Amazon mobile renders the Author Page differently than desktop
Mobile product pages on the Amazon app render the Author Page as a tap target below the buy box: the photo is a circle, the bio is truncated with "Read more," and the books appear as a carousel where the Series Page is the first tap inside the author. Desktop detail pages show the Author Page in the full content column with more titles per row and the Series carousel in the content column. A page that is 60% with missing photo reads as thin on mobile where the circle is empty even when three of three are claimed. A page that is 80% with no editorial reads as no social proof on desktop where two blurbs above the fold is the hero but mobile still shows the two. The tool reports one percentage because the five signals it checks render on both; the recommendations that say "photo drives clicks below the buy box" exist for mobile where the face is the tap target.
The HTML you paste in KDP Description — bold hook plus bullets — is the same on both form factors, but the Author Page is not HTML. The checker that priced paperback at $16.99 and sized the cover at 12.926 wide are paper geometry; the Author Page is not characters, it is whether the Page allows follow. The KDP save limit of about 4,000 characters is the same on both, but the Page's 400-character bio is a separate field. Keep the bio 400 plus even when desktop could fit 200.
