A book—not just a thread
The project survives new chats, changed devices, and long pauses with its approved structure intact.
Write up to 50,000 accepted words with a compatible connected assistant—then earn a permanent 100,000-word unlock—while BookWriter holds the plan, voice, chapters, revisions, and exact place to continue.
Current ChatGPT full MCP write actions are available on web for Business and Enterprise/Edu workspaces with the required app permissions. Individual ChatGPT Pro currently supports custom MCP read/fetch actions only. Compatible client availability varies.

Why connect a real system?
ChatGPT or Claude can be a wonderful creative collaborator. BookWriter adds the durable structure long-form work needs without asking you to abandon the assistant you like.
The project survives new chats, changed devices, and long pauses with its approved structure intact.
The author approves concrete voice rules once, then revises the contract when the creative direction changes.
BookWriter knows the active chapter, what has been accepted, and whether the manuscript should continue, review, or extend.
Earlier chapters can be replaced deliberately without losing the current writing position or pretending history never changed.
When a client response is interrupted, authoritative status is checked before any write is repeated.
Use the connected assistant account you prefer while BookWriter remains the durable home of the book.
What App Connect actually is
The assistant remains flexible and conversational. BookWriter supplies the durable operating layer: owner-scoped state, bounded context, explicit approvals, versioned manuscript changes, and a recoverable path from first idea to finished files.
ChatGPT or another compatible assistant remains the place where the author explores, directs, drafts, and reacts in natural language.
BookWriter keeps the approved blueprint, voice contract, exact chapter position, accepted versions, goal, and owner-scoped project record outside the chat window.
A draft is not an accepted chapter. A suggestion is not a correction. Review is not finalization. The author’s explicit decision moves work between those states.
Every important write has a stable retry identity and authoritative status, so an interrupted client response does not become a duplicate book or mystery overwrite.
That separation is the innovation: the assistant can be imaginative without becoming the database, permissions system, version history, progress meter, or publication authority.

This is an outcome comparison. Your assistant remains the creative conversation; BookWriter adds persistent, author-controlled book state.
Capabilities of conversational assistants vary by product and account. This comparison describes the durable BookWriter workflow, not a claim that an assistant cannot help with any individual item.
The planned finish-line suite keeps the same rule as chapter acceptance: the system may inspect, calculate, and propose—but the author decides what becomes durable. These capabilities are documented now and become callable only when the current BookWriter tools explicitly advertise them.
Read the complete preview contractExact accepted words for the book and each chapter, goal progress, average chapter length, and clearly labeled estimated print pages before typesetting.
Review one chapter at a time, see the conflicting fact and minimal patch, then apply, edit, keep, or intentionally ignore it. No automatic voice rewrite.
Develop three original, portfolio-caliber editorial directions in ChatGPT, then use BookWriter for exact typography, safe zones, and publication-ready cover packaging.
From blank page to chapter one
Create a free BookWriter account, add the MCP endpoint in ChatGPT, and authorize with BookWriter OAuth. No manual token paste.
Tell the assistant the premise, audience, ending direction, voice, target, and boundaries. Approve the blueprint before prose.
Review each chapter in conversation. A clear save request accepts the complete current chapter and moves the book forward.
Select the project later and BookWriter restores the exact saved position plus the bounded context for what comes next.
What the agent receives
The connection starts with the public operating contract. Private project context is loaded only after you choose a book, and only in bounded resources needed for the active task.
The writing workflow, safety rules, recovery behavior, and current free-plan boundaries. No manuscript prose.
The exact saved chapter position, accepted count, word progress, and most recent durable mutation.
The approved blueprint and voice versions plus one active chapter packet and bounded continuity.
A specific earlier chapter or full versioned resource needed for an explicit correction or review.

Yes. A new account can create one persistent Steering Connect book and save up to 50,000 accepted words with no BookWriter charge and no credit card required. Your connected assistant account is separate.
Your manuscript stays saved. You can invite 3 authors who verify their accounts and start their own free Connect books to permanently expand your original free book to 100,000 accepted words, or activate Connect Plus or Pro for paid-plan capacity. BookWriter does not erase the project or silently save text beyond the included boundary.
Share your private invite link. When 3 different friends verify new BookWriter accounts and start their own included free Connect books, your original free Connect book permanently expands from 50,000 to 100,000 accepted words. It does not add active-book slots or publication packages, and BookWriter never requests or stores your phone contacts.
In Steering Connect, the connected assistant writes in the conversation. BookWriter supplies the durable book structure and saves prose only when you clearly ask to accept it. This lets you use the assistant account you already prefer.
No. Connection supplies the operating rules, not a manuscript dump. After you select a project, the assistant reads its current status and only the bounded plan, voice, continuity, or chapter packet needed for the task.
Yes. The BookWriter card can start the free book, list existing projects, continue the exact saved chapter, and open that exact project in the BookWriter writing room when you want the web editor.
BookWriter also offers a universal MCP connection for compatible clients. The curated ChatGPT app has its own guided card experience, while the persistent book workflow remains the same.
Connect Plus is $4.99 per month for books up to 120,000 words and 3 active books. Pro is $9.99 per month for books up to 240,000 words, 10 active books, and 3 unique EPUB/PDF publication snapshots per billing period.
Active means books that are currently writable. Finishing, archiving, or deleting a book frees that slot for another project; the limit is not a lifetime book limit.
The original free project stays the same book and counts as one active paid-plan book. Its word ceiling follows the paid plan while subscribed. If you cancel, nothing is deleted: that original book returns to 50,000 words, or 100,000 if you earned the permanent referral unlock. Other paid-plan books remain preserved and readable but require a paid plan for further connected writing.
Yes. Every author can open the saved project in BookWriter and manually export the current manuscript as EPUB, PDF, DOCX, or Markdown at no BookWriter charge. Pro adds agent-orchestrated, immutable publication snapshots with versioned publishing metadata and automated EPUB/PDF render packages; it does not hold basic manuscript export hostage.
Surgical Continuity Edit is a documented product preview for chapter-by-chapter continuity review. The planned workflow shows the conflicting passage, supporting book fact, and smallest proposed patch, then lets the author apply it, edit it, keep the original, or mark the difference intentional. It is not callable until the current BookWriter tool list explicitly includes it.
Connected Cover Studio is a documented product preview. The planned workflow gives ChatGPT a bounded BookWriter cover brief and a premium original editorial-design quality bar, lets the author choose a direction through their separate ChatGPT account, then uses BookWriter for approved-asset storage, exact typography, and print-safe packaging. It does not copy a named artist or Behance project.
