Word counts and estimated print pages

Product preview: understand exact accepted-word totals, chapter length, goal progress, and clearly labeled estimated print pages.

This capability is a documented product preview. It is not available until the current BookWriter tool list and interface explicitly show it. The workflow below records the intended author-control and safety contract.

Direct answer

BookWriter’s planned manuscript metrics will show exact accepted words for the whole book and each accepted chapter, plus target progress and estimated print pages. Before typesetting, the page estimate uses 250 words per page and says so; after a print preview exists, the rendered page count becomes the authoritative print count.

Product preview—not a live metric card yet

The underlying BookWriter records already track accepted chapter words, but the unified connected-book and chapter metric presentation described here is not yet generally available. Agents must not invent totals or page counts that the current tool response did not supply.

Exact words, approximate pages

Accepted-word counts come from the durable accepted manuscript state used by BookWriter. A pre-typeset page count is an estimate calculated as words divided by 250 and rounded up. The interface labels both the estimate and its basis.

Book and chapter context

The overview will show accepted words, target, percentage complete, accepted and planned chapters, average accepted chapter length, and estimated print pages. A selected chapter will show its own accepted or working words, target, and page estimate.

Print pages are not ebook pages

Reflowable ebooks change with device, font, margins, and accessibility settings, so BookWriter will not present one estimated number as a universal Kindle page count. Rendered paperback pages depend on trim, typography, spacing, margins, and front matter.

After typesetting

When an author selects print settings and a preview finishes, BookWriter can show the rendered interior page count and retain the earlier estimate as secondary context. Cover-spine calculations must use the rendered count, not the early word-based estimate.

Frequently asked

How accurate is 250 words per page?

It is a planning estimate, not a print promise. Dialogue density, trim size, font, spacing, chapter openings, and front matter can materially change the final count.

Do rejected drafts count toward the manuscript total?

No. The connected-book total is based on accepted manuscript prose. A working draft can display its own separate chapter count without increasing the accepted total.

Is this metric view available now?

Not as the unified connected experience documented here. The page is a product-preview contract until the metric fields appear in the current BookWriter status tools and interfaces.
